The Kitty DeGree School of Nursing at the University of Louisiana Monroe offers a fully online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) concentration. This program prepares graduates to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in primary care settings providing comprehensive primary care across the lifespan.
The MSN-FNP program develops advanced clinical knowledge, diagnostic reasoning, evidence-based practice skills, leadership competencies, and population health expertise necessary to meet the evolving healthcare needs of diverse communities. Graduates are prepared to provide patient-centered care in rural, urban, and underserved settings while promoting health, preventing disease, and managing acute and chronic health conditions.

Didactic & Clinical Experiences
Students will complete 40 credit hours and a minimum of 800 supervised direct clinical hours in approved primary care settings under the guidance of qualified clinical preceptors and faculty oversight.

Certification Eligibility
Graduates are academically eligible to apply for national certification examinations through:
路 American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)
路 American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Successful certification is required for advanced practice licensure according to state regulations.
Admission Requirements
In addition to Graduate School听admission requirements, applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Hold a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Louisiana
- Have two years minimum work experience as an RN
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
- If GPA is less than 2.8, applicant must take the GRE. The verbal and quantitative scores will be multiplied by the applicant GPA to achieve a formula score. Minimum formula score 712 required. GRE must be taken prior to the application deadline.
- Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
- Meet all Graduate School admission requirements.
