KEDM Receives Awards at Annual LAPBA Meeting

KEDM, the full power, public radio station that has served northeast Louisiana and southern Arkansas since 1991 with a staff of five full-time employees and a complement of university and community volunteers, was the recipient of many awards at the 2003 Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association (LAPBA) radio contests. KEDM competed in Class B, which encompasses all stations not in New Orleans, Baton Rouge or Shreveport, and received a total of 17 awards at the annual LAPBA meeting held on June 12, 2004, at the Praline Connection Gospel and Blues Hall in New Orleans, La.

Sunny Meriwether, KEDM News Director, received a total of 14 awards including Best Sport Story, Best Public Affairs, Best Newscast, Story of The Year and Reporter of The Year.

In the category Best General News, KEDM received first place for Big Zoo, Small Zoo by Kate Archer; second place for Fazzioli Grands by Sunny Meriwether; and third place for Odyssey of the Mind by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category Best Feature, KEDM received first place for Nutrition Study by Kate Archer; second place for Flu Shots by Sunny Meriwether; and third place for Make-A-Map by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category Continuing Coverage, KEDM received first place for West Nile by Sunny Meriwether. In the category Best Sports Story, KEDM received first place for True Grit by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category Best Public Affairs, KEDM received first place for Monroe City Plan by Sunny Meriwether; second place for Interim Chef by Sunny Meriwether; and third place for Governor's Debate by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category Best Sound, KEDM received first place for Stepshow by Kate Archer; second place for Percussion Ensemble by Sunny Meriwether; and third place for LDCC by Sunny Meriwether.

In the category Story of The Year, KEDM received first place for Interim Chef by Sunny Meriwether. Sunny Meriwether also received first place in the Reporter of the Year category.
